Postage is one of those things that sounds simple but gets complicated fast. When I was setting up Suellas, I spent a lot of time thinking about how to handle it in a way that felt genuinely fair to customers — not just easy for me.
Why We Don't Offer Free Postage
Free postage sounds appealing, but here's the thing: it's never actually free. When a shop offers free postage, the cost of delivery has simply been baked into the price of each item. That's fine if you're buying one thing — but if you're buying several items at once, you end up paying for postage multiple times over, hidden inside each product price. That doesn't feel fair to customers who are putting together a bigger order.
So yes — by not offering free postage, we're actually trying to save you money.
How We Work Out the Cost
Delivery companies charge based on the size and weight of a package, and every order is different. Calculating the exact dimensions of a combined order of several differently shaped items would be enormously complicated — and probably still not perfectly accurate.
Instead, we assign every item a package size category: large letter, small parcel, or medium parcel. When you order multiple items, the postage is based on the largest category in your order. In most cases, several items from the same category will fit comfortably together without jumping up a size. On the rare occasion they don't, we'll absorb the extra cost ourselves.
This means our postage charges are an honest approximation rather than a precise calculation — sometimes we'll charge a little more than the exact cost, sometimes a little less. We think that's a reasonable trade-off for keeping things simple and transparent.
Standard and Express Options
We offer both standard and express postage for every package size, so you can choose the speed that suits you. The cost at checkout reflects your order's size category and your chosen delivery speed — nothing more.
A Work in Progress
We'll be honest — how we calculate postage may evolve a little over time as we learn more about what works best. But our commitment to keeping it fair won't change. If you ever have a question about postage on your order, just get in touch.
